NE Jones Ninth Grade Biology Class (2/18/16)

I had the opportunity to visit with some of the people I represent as Miss Jones County at Northeast Jones High School. Mrs. Grantham's ninth grade biology class had just started learning about nucleic acids, which was a great time for me to come talk about my research with them. My work with viral RNA gave them a little insight into how the basics they're learning now translate into real-life discoveries. Now, when these stellar students get into the lab, they will already have an idea of how to isolate RNA and use gel electrophoresis to analyze it. Thank you, class, for allowing me to share my enthusiasm for all things science with you! I couldn't stay for too long, though, since I had to jet off to the Mississippi Academy of Science in Hattiesburg to present the very same research (to a very different audience, of course).

Hopefully, I'll get a chance to go back—once they've learned a little more from their textbooks, and I've discovered a few more things in the lab!
